Frequently asked questions

All questions
Which driving licence do I need for an electric scooter?

That depends on the scooter. For an electric scooter with 45 km/h you need class AM, which is already included in your car driving licence. Faster electric scooters with at most 11 kW output are light motorcycles. This includes all our scooters that go faster than 45 km/h, including models with more than 100 km/h. For them you need class A1 or code B196 on your car driving licence. Only above 11 kW output do you need class A2 or A. The vehicle class of your model is stated in the vehicle document (COC).

What is B196 and who may ride with it?

B196 is a code that is entered on your car driving licence. With it you may ride light motorcycles up to 11 kW, which includes our electric scooters that go faster than 45 km/h. You must be at least 25 years old and have held class B for five years. In addition, there is a course at a driving school with theory and practice; there is no test.

How much does B196 cost?

That depends on your driving school and your region. Expect a few hundred to a good thousand euros for the course. On top of that comes a fee for the new driving licence. Your driving school can give you an exact quote.

What do I need for a scooter faster than 45 km/h?

Scooters up to 11 kW output are light motorcycles, just like a 125 cc petrol scooter. This includes all our electric scooters that go faster than 45 km/h. They get an official registration plate at the vehicle registration office and must have a roadworthiness test (HU) every two years. You ride them with class A1 or with B196.

Do I have to pay vehicle tax?

For scooters up to 45 km/h you pay no vehicle tax, only the insurance. Faster electric scooters and electric motorcycles are exempt from vehicle tax if they are first registered by the end of 2030. This applies to all our electric scooters with an official registration plate. The exemption applies for ten years, at the latest until the end of 2035. You do not need to apply for it.

How much does insurance cost?

That depends on the insurer, your age and where you live. For scooters up to 45 km/h you buy the insurance plate once a year. For faster scooters with an official registration plate you take out insurance like for a motorcycle. Your insurer will tell you the exact price.

How far can I go on one battery charge?

That depends on the model. The range is stated in the technical data for each model. These values apply under good conditions. In cold weather, with two people, uphill and at full throttle you get less far. For everyday use, allow some margin below the stated figure. If your scooter has a removable battery, it is best to charge it in your warm home in winter and only insert it shortly before riding.

How does my vehicle get to me?

We deliver scooters and E-Bikes insured by freight carrier. The freight carrier calls you beforehand and arranges the delivery date with you. That is why we need your phone number when you order. Within Germany, delivery takes about 5 to 10 working days. Your vehicle arrives about 95 percent assembled. On a scooter, you only fit small parts such as the mirrors. On an E-Bike, you only fit the pedals and straighten the handlebar. We recommend having the vehicle checked by a specialist workshop before the first ride.

How much does shipping cost?

Within Germany, shipping costs 9.95 euros for spare parts and accessories, 59 euros for an E-Bike and 99 euros for a scooter. To Austria it is 19.95 euros, 69 euros and 179 euros.

Can I return my vehicle?

Yes. When you buy online, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal from delivery, including for vehicles. You bear the cost of the return. For vehicles that go back by freight carrier, this is at most about 99 euros. Everything else is set out in our withdrawal instructions.
