Old appliances and batteries
Electrical appliances, batteries, and rechargeable batteries do not belong in household waste. Here you can find out how to properly dispose of old devices and batteries and where you can hand them in free of charge.
Old batteries and rechargeable batteries
You are legally required to dispose of old batteries and rechargeable batteries separately from household waste. This also includes batteries for e-bikes and electric scooters. They are classified as batteries for light means of transport.
You can return old batteries of the types we sell to us free of charge. This applies to portable batteries and batteries for e-bikes and electric scooters. You do not have to purchase anything from us, and the brand and origin do not matter. Hand them in at our location in Nuremberg or take them to a municipal collection point or a retail collection point.
If you order a vehicle or a battery from us and wish to return an old battery, please let us know when ordering. We will then provide you with a collection point near you or coordinate the return with you.
What the symbols mean
The crossed-out wheelie bin on a battery means that it must be collected separately and must not be disposed of in household waste. If "Cd" or "Pb" is printed underneath, the battery contains cadmium or lead above the permitted limit.
Safety with lithium batteries
Lithium-ion batteries can catch fire if damaged, short-circuited, or overheated. Tape over the terminals of loose batteries before returning them. Damaged, swollen, or hot batteries should not be placed in a collection box. In such cases, contact us or your local municipal collection point.
Environment and raw materials
Batteries contain substances that can harm the environment and health if disposed of improperly. Separate collection allows raw materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel to be recovered. If you charge and store your battery according to the operating instructions, it will last longer and produce less waste.
Waste electrical and electronic equipment
The crossed-out wheelie bin on an electrical appliance means that you must dispose of it separately from household waste. The residual waste bin and the yellow recycling bin are not permitted for this. This applies, for example, to e-bikes and chargers.
- Remove batteries and rechargeable batteries that are not permanently installed before returning the device and dispose of them separately. This also applies to lamps that can be removed.
- Delete personal data from the old device yourself before handing it in. You are responsible for this.
- You can drop off old devices free of charge at the collection points of your city or municipality.
- Small old devices with an edge length of up to 25 cm are accepted free of charge by our partner take-e-way's return points—a maximum of three per device type and even without a new purchase. You can find a location near you at take-e-back.de.
- At our collection point in Nuremberg, we accept old devices of the same type that you have purchased from us.
